Book of Hours vellum leaf, printed & hand illuminated. 1506

$795.00

An original vellum leaf from an early printed Book of Hours with metal cut borders and hand illumination.
The wonderful decorative borders include "grotesques" and scenes of Death carrying off a variety of people: the horsewoman, the abbess and the woman of easy virtue.
The text is from the Office of the Dead, Lauds, and the two-line initial "M" begins Psalm 50. The first phrase of each verse is in Latin and then begins again in French: "Miserere mei. Ayes mercy de moy (mois) mon dieu..."
Printed by Antoine Verard in Paris in 1506. The leaf is in excellent condition & is presented in a museum quality mat with backing, ready to frame. Unconditionally guaranteed genuine. Size 170x110 mm.
