SOLD Tallis map of Australia, c. 1853

One of the hardest of all the Tallis maps to find. This is the late edition that includes the newly discovered goldfields, which are coloured (at the time) in yellow.
5 vignettes - "Natives of the Tribe of Bogan", "Australian Parrots and Cockatoo", "Natives of Australia Felix", "Kangaroos", "Sydney" with Illustrations by J. Marchant & Engraved by J.B. Allen - which are recently hand coloured. (See images below)

Steel engraved map - Drawn & Engraved by J. Rapkin - with steel engraved vignettes, original outline colouring of the States and Territories and later colouring of the vignettes. The map is dated c. 1853.

Excellent condition with good margins, no tears, no foxing. Centre fold as issued.

Presented in a museum quality mat and foamcore backing, ready to frame.
