A wood engraving of “A Shearer knocking down his cheque”, i.e. drinking away his hard-earned pay from shearing. The engraving is from Andrew Garran's monumental publication, "The Picturesque Atlas of Australasia", which was issued in weekly parts from 1882 - 1888.
Engraved on wood after the original drawing by Livingston Hopkins (1846-1927).

Excellent condition, uncoloured as issued. Presented in a double mat with backing, ready to frame. Image size: 165x140 mm. Overall: 325x280 mm.
